Recycle BIN
PROJECT Recycle BIN TYPE Public design LOCATION public OWNER everywhere SITE AREA not indicate USED AREA not indicate STATUS prototype-built (2019) -
A prototype of this trashcan named ‘Recycle BIN’ derived from major pain point of trashcan in Thailand. Most of public trashcans which are provided by the government comprise of four types differentiated by their colors, green, yellow, red, and blue. The red one is for danger waste, the green one is for compostable waste such as waste food and leaf debris, the yellow one is for recycle waste which are glass, paper, plastic, and metal, while the blue one is a general waste which is not qualified for these 3-type mentioned above. Even if there are four types, but mostly, there are only two types which are the green and yellow one, provided for public.
The green one cause many problems from dirtiness, which are cockroaches and rats, while the yellow one is a combination of all type of recycle waste which is very hard for the recyclers to separate. In order to solve these problems, a prototype of an existing set of trashcans will be replaced by ‘Recycle BIN’.
Simple rectangular shape is used for this bin design, 60 by 60 centimeters enwrap another 30 by 30 centimeters inside, with both 80 centimeters height, divides the functions of itself. The outer one is for only recycle waste, while the inner one is for a small tree. A translucent material of the outer one which is made of polycarbonate, generates different effect during daytime and nighttime. An opaque waste inside when seeing through during daytime, makes it is less mess, while preventing danger from dangerous trash such as a bomb from terrorist, which can be hidden in an existing solid trashcan. During nighttime, a recessed LED lighting generated by small solar cell, not only makes this bin becomes a ‘public lamp’, but also preventing dirt from cockroaches and rats which are always being in darkness.
This bin is made of local materials which are cheap, easy to find, and durable. It can be applied for any location such as, in the park, on the roadside, or inside the public building. Moreover, an integration of 3-function makes general trashcan looks nicer, cleaner, more environmental friendly, and can be the light during nighttime.
